Celebrated my birthday last Friday by going to the Vancouver Zoo with family in tow. I will need to go back in the summer when it won't be pissing rain the whole time there and the train will be running. On the plus side it was a nice walk and there were maybe 4 other families/groups there so it was like having the run of the place.
We had a yummy dinner with some of my wife's cool relatives and on Saturday went to Storyeum which was lots of fun.
Then home to find my birthday present from the spouse had arrived. A Feast Unknown by Philip Jose Farmer. It was a wonderfully fun read. I want to read more actual Doc Savage books now.
Sunday the tot wanted to see boats instead of animals so went to the locks in Ballard and got a suprise. We picked the right day to see them cleaning out the big lock. It was neat to see it all emptied out and really how big it is with the few workers moving about the bottom for a sense of scale.

Happy Turkey Day...
Yes I still exist. Work is busy and stressful but some of the stuff they were hoping to accomplish with the last reorg is not working out mostly because my employer is HUGE and we a complicated mishmash of stuff to support (i.e. oracle, sql, mssql, and 2 or 3 versions of each depending on how well the developers are moving things along).

The intranet portal is about to get a dedicated team because it is a complicated mess all in itself with 170+ and growing number of boxes supporting it.

While none of the other stuff is that messy there are plenty of complicated apps that pretty much will take up the time of a few admins just to keep up with maintaining and knowing what is what with that application/system alone. But we are expected to do and know all for all the windows server stuff in our support contract and after a year there has been little real training as we are all doing our best to keep up with the stuff we actually do know to have time to learn new stuff or teach others.

On the plus side I got a promotion. I went from a level 2 admin to a level 3 which means a bit more money.

Thankful for managing to stay employed with good bennies and for a wonderful dinner and yummy wine with friends this evening.

Today was really Boring as hell
I got out of bed really early because I had terrible stomach cramps.

I got word that my first roll of shots from the Holga are developed and waiting with a contact sheet.
I have figured out where I can go in future and get a CD made as well and will probably see about that if I like the pics with this roll.
The color roll is still away being worked on as far as I know. It is all from the trip to Biringer Farm that Chasbot and his classmates from daycare. That I am having worked by a Ritz Camera Chain store that I can walk to and hopefully can get a CD of digital scans as well. I also need to get the pics off the digicam that I took.

Other things I actually did not play in the Scrabble tournament that my local club puts on every year this last weekend. vivasuperstar and I waffled about who was going to get to play and it filled up. I did have a peek at the tournament Saturday afternoon and had lunch with some people that I only get to see when attending a tournament.
I then took the offspring to Gasworks Park to wear him out and enjoy the unexpected sun. I stumble across some jugglers and other youngish sorts who were celebrating the birthday of one of the group. They were playing Mondo Croquet which I had not thought of since the days of hanging out with the Seattle Cacophony Society where that was one of the events.
